Karlobag is a little adriatic town with 42 km long riviera located under the VELEBIT mountain chain along the seaside Adriatic Highway, which from Rijeka leads to Dubrovnik, towards Gospić, Lake of Plitvice and Zagreb.
Karlobag represents an unavoidable tourist oasis with an ideal combination of Mediterranean and mountain clime, which favors health tourism and give you a shelter and refreshing after a long trip.
Near Karlobag, which is the municipal centre are placed the other small settlements along the coast: Ribarica, Cesarica, Lukovo Šugarje, Barić Draga and Sv. Marija Magdalena and on the Velebit mountain chain, there is Baške Oštarije.
It is certainly ideall place for vacation for everyone in any time of year.
History
Karlobag was a Roman village that has a trading, transportive and military significance trough the history. In the biggining the name of the town was Bag. The rule of many different monarchs rotated in this city and in 16th century Ottomans ruined it and took its inhabitants as slaves. The reconstruction of the city was finished by the 16th century and that is the time when the name "Karlobag" is used for the first time. Karlobag was under the reign of Austria for some time and in 18th century was built the Capuchin Monastery and church. After the French reign the town was given back to Austria. Karlobag was developing 'til the World Wars came. After the wars the citizens turned to the tourism so today Karlobag becomes one of Croatian touristic centers with Mediterranean climate and vegetation and clean Adriatic Sea.

Art
Every year in Karlobag is held the International Painting Colony, the festival that is famous for the arrivals of many artistics from all over the world and Croatia.
Museums
Karlobag has no museums but in the vicinity you can find the village Smiljan where is placed the Museum of Nikola Tesla, a Croatian famous scientist.

Nightlife
During the summer all bars that are placed near the sea in Karlobag are full and they offer you good fun that lasts 'til morning.
Daytime
The beaches here are beutiful and they have great views on the Island of Pag, and it is like they were made for enjoying in the sun and clean sea. Near Karlobag is placed the river Gacka where you can go fishing, kayaking or rafting. There are also activites such as climbing, hiking, cycling and the offer of sports: volleyball, football, basketball, tennis, bowling, mini-golf and all water sports.
