Drvenik Veli is an island in the central Dalmatia, placed northwest of the island of Šolta, between the Drvenik and Šolta Channels.

This beautiful paradise is located just off the mainland of Croatia. The total population of the island is around 170 people. History
Drvenik Veli was first inhabited in the 15th century, but it has had many visitors through the centuries. The Greeks and the Romans all left an imprint here. In Roman times the island was called Tariona. Monuments in Croatia that date back to the 13th century call the island Gerona or Giruan. Local attractions include the church of St. George, which was built in the 16th century and the church of St. Nicholas which was built in 1715. At the end of the 18th century another church was built by the family of Macanovic but was never finished. The architecture around the island is rich in ancient culture and its features make you feel like you are truly stepping back in time.
